This is a showcase of Monica Kennedy's mental health writings. Monica is currently enrolled at Liberty University in the Professional Counseling Masters program, anticipated graduation May, 2012. Her major areas of interest are Trauma/Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). She anticipates obtaining certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which is a well-established and well-researched psychotherapy treatment approach which has been used with adults for over 20 years for the treatment of trauma (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense, 2004; American Psychiatric Association, 2004; National Institute for Clinical Excellence, 2005; Tapia & Settle, 2008). It is the preferred approach to treatment for PTSD by the U.S, Department of Veterans Affairs as well as many other agencies and in many other countries. Monica is also very interested in Christian and Family Systems therapies. She looks forward to having a private practice which will offer sliding scale fees for services so that no person has to do without appropriate treatment. She plans on calling her private practice "The Center for Hope" because hope is the key to finding good health (mental and physical) and a happy life.
